Communication is the activity of conveying meaningful information. Modes of communication are postal communication, tele communication, mass communication. 1

The oldest means of communication is the post. Some ways of postal communication are- Postcards, letters – They send written information to other places in a few days. Money order - They send money by cash or cheque to other places in a few days. Speed post – They send urgent item to other places. Telegram – They gives some information to other places in a few hours. 3

Telecommunication is the easiest and fastest means of communication. India has more than 30,000 telephone exchanges. Some ways of telecommunication are- Telephone- It is a device that transmits and receives sounds, usually the human voice. Fax – It is the fastest device that sends a copy of images and documents. Mobile – It is a wireless telephone which can be carried anywhere. They can also send SMS and MMS. Internet – It is a worldwide network of computers which can be used to make telephone calls, surf for information and also send s. 4

Sending a message to a large number of people at same time is called mass communication. Some ways of mass communication are- Radio – It broadcasts news or other programs to many people by electromagnetic waves. Television – It telecasts news, educational, entertainment, sports and weather related information to many peoples with the help of cables or direct to house technology(DTH). Newspapers – It is the cheapest way of mass communication. Thousands of newspaper containing news are printed and distributed by hundreds of newspaper boys to peoples. 5
