The famous writer Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth, England on 7 th February, The house has miraculously survived and is now preserved as a museum furnished in the style of John Dickens (Charles Dickens's father) came to Portsmouth when his job in the Navy Pay Office was transferred from London. They stayed here until 1815 when his job demanded that he return to London. Charles Dickens only lived in Portsmouth for the first three years of his life but he returned to the town on three occasions. On his last visit in 1866 he tried to find his birthplace but was unsuccessful.

At an early age,private education at William Giles's School, in Chatham. He attended school sporadically until he was 15 years old. In his lifetime he attended three formal schools.

In Charles Dickens' day, awards were more commonly given for practical purposes. If he had made inventions or created new ways to produce machinery, he would have most likely won a few. However, awards for art, literature, or other creative achievements were about non existent. There have been plays, musicals, and movies that have received awards since that time, but Charles Dickens himself never received any.

Charles Dickens died at his home Gad's Hill Rochester, Kent, England, UK. His death was due to cerebral hemorrhage and occurred on June 9, His last novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, was left unfinished.
