STRENGTHENING FISHERIES MANAGEMENT IN ACP COUNTRIES Second Open Day of the Department of Sustainable Economic Development and Trade Focus on Climate Change Brussels, 11 October 2011

222 PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES AND MAIN FEATURES sustainable and equitable management of fisheries in ACP regions Overall objective is “to contribute to the sustainable and equitable management of fisheries in ACP regions, thus leading to poverty alleviation and improving food security in ACP States” strengthen fisheries sectoral policy Specific Objective is to strengthen fisheries sectoral policy development and implementation in ACP countries €5 million of funded projects under the Programme Estimate 1 (September 2010 – May 2011) €15 million to fund projects under the Programme Estimate 2 (June 2011 – November 2012 Decentralised management with 1 CU and 6 RFUs

COMPONENTS AND RESULTS Expected Results according to 5 Programme Components: fisheries policies and management 1.Improved fisheries policies and management plans at regional and national levels enforcement capabilities 2.Reinforced control and enforcement capabilities research strategies 3.Reinforced national and regional research strategies and initiatives private sector 4.Developed business supportive regulatory frameworks and private sector investment knowledge-sharing 5.Increased knowledge-sharing on fisheries management and trade at regional level 333

ELEGIBILITY TO THE PROGRAMME The Programme is running from June 2009 to date Implementation through 1,5 year budgets, Programme Estimates 1 and 2 The PE1 ended in May 2011 The PE2 runs from June 2011 to November 2012 The total budget to fund projects is around €20 M is based on a demand-driven principle Access to the Programme funds is based on a demand-driven principle. The FAs and the RFBs can propose projects, under the framework of the ACP FISH II 5 Components 6 Regional Action Plans with the projects to be implemented were approved and are being implemented 4
