U.S.A Navy EP-38 Aries II- China Collision Rebecca Klinger & Aaron Cooper

Need to Know April 1, 2001 Collision over the south china sea between U.S Navy EP-3 Reconnaissance Plane and a people’s liberation army. 24 American crew members were detained for 11 days by (PRC) People’s republic of china.

What Happened The serious incident of April 2001 between the United States and the People’s Republic of China involved a collision over the south china sea Between U.S. Navy EP-3 reconnaissance plane and The People’s Liberation Army.F-8 naval fighter. After the Crash and surviving the near- fatal accident the U.S. crew made an emergency landing of their damaged plane onto the People’s Liberation army in Lingshui Airfield on Hainan Island.

After that the People’s Republic of China held/detained the 24 American crew members. Washington and Beijing disagreed over the cause of accident, whether Washington would “Apologize” determined weather the crew and plan would be relisted.

After 11 days the crew was returned separately to the United States while the air craft remained in china. The air craft was taken apart for research on American technology. An American team was later permitted to enter Hainan Island in order to dismantle the air craft. The plane was air lifted back to the united states for repairs.
