Purpose   From Edmodo to how can you use these two web tools to increase the “talking” of your students?  Edmodo, A Centralized Learning Station with Control and Fun Engagement  Daily, Weekly, or Bi-Weekly Check In  Depends on the Age Group  Available Resources  A way to “talk” about their day or any given topic via Blogging by moving through Edmodo

Join the Group!  Log on or Create an Edmodo account at  Join the group that I set up for this conference. The group code is “ym6awz”.

Edmodo What is It?  It’s like Facebook for teachers, students, and parents.  Social network of professional learning & educational outreach  Quick Assessment Tool for you and your students  Communication hub and “look see” for parents  Interactive choice for students with its apps, ability to ask the teacher, and reply to other students’ comments

Kidblog What is It?  Online talking where kids can have their own page  A “new” way to write a journal  Controlled by the teacher  Assessment of writing and grammar skills  Easy to use for kids and teachers

The 3 W’s   Why?   Technology Inclusion   Attract the Video Generation   Address different learning styles   Transition into more of a paperless classroom   Move toward the Flip Classroom   When?   1-2 times per week or bi- weekly   Where?   Classroom Computers (2)   Weekly trip to computer lab

How?   Set a Schedule for trips to the computer lab and rotation on the classroom computers   Be consistent AND start the first or second week of school   Student serves as a Computer Manager (SCM)   Assign a topic to be written first in their tablets or journals   Connect the content to the activities on Edmodo and the writing on the Blog   Give each day a theme (i.e. Relaxed Wednesday, Talkative Tuesday, Thinking Thursday, etc.)

How?   Ask the Media Center Specialist to Co-Teach   Use your ETC (Educational Technology Specialist) or equivalent if available   Use a Form that helps logging in easier   Copy the form to place on a clipboard in alphabetical order by the classroom computers and the SCM takes it on lab visits   Send original form home with student stapled to the homework folder
