 TRUE: Nicotine is a powerful drug that is just as addictive as heroin

 TRUE: Second Hand Smoke is just as dangerous as smoking. WHO estimates that nearly 700 million, or almost half the world’s children, breathe air polluted by tobacco smoke, particularly at home.

 FALSE: To quit smoking is a difficult, but rewarding, process. Smoking is an addictive habit that is very hard to break. There are many new products available to decrease the urge for nicotine. Some help relieve withdrawal symptoms by providing a temporary source of nicotine that is less than the amount received in cigarettes. Some products even aid physical withdrawal symptoms. Start breathing clean air.

 TRUE. Around 5.4 million deaths a year are caused by tobacco. Smoking is set to kill 6.5 million people in 2015 and 8.3 million humans in Every 6.5 seconds a current or former smoker dies, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). An estimated 1.3 billion people are smokers worldwide (WHO).

 FALSE: Each day about 13,500 people worldwide die from smoking-related diseases

 TRUE: Smoking is associated with an increase in heart attacks and stroke. Smoking damages and constricts blood vessels, reducing blood flow to the heart and brain. Your life can depend on stopping the smoking habit.

 FALSE: Nicotine causes arteries to constrict, so smoking reduces the blood supply to the heart.

 TRUE. The majority of tobacco users in the world begin while in their teenage years or earlier. A whopping eighty-percent of current smokers start before they turn 18.

 TRUE. This is only one of the direct health consequences of tobacco.  Smoking is a known or probable cause of about 25 diseases.

 TRUE: Nicotine is a small molecule that is both fat and water-soluble; therefore, it is rapidly absorbed through the skin or lining of the mouth. It takes seconds for nicotine to pass from the cigarette to the brain.
