COLOR COLOR WHEEL

Primary Colors One of any three basic colors (red, yellow, blue) that cannot be made by mixing colors. Primary colors are used for mixing other colors.

Secondary Color A color made by mixing equal amounts of two primary colors. Green, orange, and violet are the secondary colors.

Secondary Colors

Tertiary Color A color made by mixing a secondary color with a primary color. Blue-green, yellow-green, yellow-orange, red-orange, red-violet, and blue-violet are intermediate colors.

Tertiary Color

Complementary Colors that are directly opposite each other on the color wheel. red and green, blue and orange, and violet and yellow.

ANALOGOUS COLORS Colors that are closely related because they have one hue in common. These colors fall next to each other on the color wheel

Monochromatic Made of only a single color or hue and its tints and shades. Tint=color+white shade=color+black or complement

Value The darkness or lightness of a surface. Value depends on how much light a surface reflects.

Space The empty or open area between, around, above, below or within objects. Positive space is filled by a shape or form. Negative space surrounds a shape or form.

Form Any three- dimensional object. A form can be measured from top to bottom, side to side, front to back. A shape that can be geld in your hand. Cube, cylinder, cone, prism, sphere.
