IS… off to a GREAT start!

Morning Drop-off Please drop your student off in the cafeteria with their class every morning BEFORE 7:50am. Please pick your child up promptly at 2:50 each day.

Start the day with a great breakfast! Every morning the students are provided with breakfast from the cafeteria. The food items change from day to day. They get a carton of milk (2%,white, 1% white, or chocolate) The best part…IT’S FREE!

Carpet Time Repetition is important for learning if you want the knowledge to stick. Therefore each class goes over colors, letters and sounds of the alphabet, and numbers everyday. We also talk about the date and the weather for the day.

Take Home Folders Folders are used for information and communication. Please check it DAILY to find your child’s behavior and any up-coming events going on at the school or in the classroom. In the folder you will find: Behavior/Snack Calendar Homework (alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes) **Please DO NOT remove from plastic sheets!!! Daily Work Notes and lunch menus from the office **Please remove all extra papers each night!

Reading This year your child is responsible for knowing all of the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make. Please make sure your child knows not only the “ABC song”, but that they can identify letters out of ABC order by sight and sound. This is SO important as they are beginning to learn to read!

Take Home Readers Your child will be bringing home a book baggie with a book and a reading log to be signed and returned daily. This is an important routine that will follow them throughout their elementary school years. They are graded on this at home participation DAILY! (readers will not be sent home on weekends or holidays)

Our new reading curriculum is called Treasures. It is a great program that focuses on all of the different aspects of Language Arts such as vocabulary, phonemic awareness, reading, and writing. We are very excited to use this program this year. Language Arts

Math Sherman ISD has implemented a Math program called C-SCOPE. This program involves lots of materials and hands-on activities for understanding concepts. Because this is a hands-on program, your child may not be bringing home a lot of papers for you to look at. For math your student is responsible for being able to recognize, count, and write numbers Your student needs to be able to orally count numbers by the end of the year.

Science Sherman ISD has a program called C- SCOPE for Science. This program involves lots of materials and hands-on activities for understanding concepts. The science lab is located upstairs by the 4 th grade classrooms.

Social Studies Social Studies is general introduced in units such as “family” and “community”. Each classroom calls itself a “team.” Each member of every team must do their part in order for all members to benefit and be successful in the classroom. These skills learned will carry over into being a mature and successful adult in the workplace later in life.

Special Classes Our special classes are: PE- 3 days a week Music- one day a week Art- one day a week Library- one day a week Computer Lab- 2 times a month with the Technology Specialist and several other times with the classroom teacher for I-Station and other computer activities.

Practice makes perfect! Practice with your child at home everyday! Even a few minutes of review each day at home will make information come easier to your child and help them be a successful student. Everything learned at school is necessary for life!

Thank you for viewing our Kindergarten slideshow! We appreciate your support!
