Ki Teitze “When You Go” Deuteronomy/Devarim 21:10-25:19 “Children Obey Your Parents”

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 21:18 “If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them.”

A Stubborn and Rebellious Child What does it mean to be stubborn and rebellious? A child who says “NO” to their parents. These children think they know more than their parents. This can be very, very dangerous for child.

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 21:19, 20 “Then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his hometown. 20 They shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.’”

What The Parent’s Should Do This is a child, who will not listen to their parents at all. Perhaps they want to hit and hurt their parents. To be disrespectful means you disobey, are rude, angry and even hate your parents. If a child continues to disobey and disrespect his or her parents, the parents were instructed to take the child to the elders of the city.

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 21:21 “Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear of it and fear.”

Action for Bad Choices A rebellious child could be stoned to death. Children have accidently died because this disobeyed their parents. The LORD wants you to obey your parents because it is the best thing for you to do.

Points to Remember I should do WHAT I’m told to do. I should do WHAT I’m told to do, WHEN I’m told to do it. I should do WHAT I’m told to do, WHEN I’m told to do it with a HAPPY heart!

Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
