Presentation transcript:

 another repository of content  another aggregation of other repositories  a new content source  a VLE

Practitioners Content suppliers

Collect EditDeliver

 more easily utilise content from a variety of sources – both free and paid-for  aggregate content into collections  edit collections using simple and powerful drag/drop interface  deploy collections to learners via URL/RSS/CD/VLE  use a single account to manage subscriptions and payments from a range of suppliers

XtAdd is the technology within XtLearn to allow adding of resources from multiple sites to XtLearn collections. 1. A simple API to allow content suppliers to add an “Add to XtLearn” button to their sites 2. A browser button to allow any other web page to be added

 publish once, appear everywhere  maintain brand, and unique shop-front  brand new markets available, with no CoS  painless DRM and revenue collection  comprehensive usage reporting

 collections are generic containers of content, used for:  building into courses and lesson plans  downloading in various formats  delivering to learners via a simple URL  sharing with other practitioners  collections can contain resources from any XtLearn enabled site (NLN/Intute/NDRB/etc.) or any other URL  accessible via XtLearn.net, within Moodle, or within any XtLearn or XtAdd-enabled site

 if a site is XtAdd-enabled, simply click the “add to XtLearn” button, and choose a collection to add to  alternatively, once installed, browser buttons (IE/Firefox/Chrome) allow adding the current URL to a collection  convert RSS feeds to collections

 All collections have a title and (optional) description for learners, a description for other practitioners, and visibility settings  collection contents can be edited using an intuitive interface, to easily  re-order (using drag-and-drop)  remove  rename resources.

 distribute the URL to learners. Options for presentation include:  styling  use a close button?  within frame or use pop-ups?  restrict IP addresses  download the collection. Choose by target platform, bypassing technical complexities:  Moodle, Blackboard etc.  CD/DVD/USB (with navigation and smart auto-run)

 provides an additional, non-exclusive route to market  no up-front cost  minimal set-up  compete on a level playing field with other suppliers, but retain a distinctive brand  comprehensive usage reporting  flexible subscription model for monetising content

 XtLearn allows suppliers to keep control of their content and brand, while liberating underused content into new market streams  XtLearn provides non-exclusive services to practitioners in all sectors for the discovery, purchasing, and delivery of content  Content will usually still reside on the supplier’s servers, with the addition of a DRM solution. (Hosting can also be provided where required.)

 A content development exchange, bringing together:  Content developers/publishers  Media producers  Subject matter experts  Testers  Translators  Meet, collaborate, project manage and publish (via XtLearn or other means)  Collect revenue

 Existing collections functionality rebranded within NLN site  The same functionality appears in Intute, NDRB and others, creating portable collections  XtLearn.net site launched  Noodle updated to allow access to collections within Moodle  Browser buttons for easily adding any URL to collections

 DRM solution rolled out  Commercial content sets added: on XtLearn site, within XtLearn functionality on other sites, and on supplier’s own shop fronts  Collection sharing  Plug-ins for other VLEs (on top of normal Scorm functionality)

 Add interface for small-scale suppliers to add their own content to the marketplace  Deeper integration into Moodle (eg. two-way conversion of collection ≈ course, manage payments within Moodle admin section).
