Is Israel an Apartheid State? Apartheid defined under international law Apartheid is defined as an institutionalized form of racism in which a state enacts laws to establish and maintain domination by one racial group of persons over others in order to systematically oppress them. "Israel is a wonderful place to live and we are happy to be there. Israel is a free and open country. If I were given the choice, I would rather live in Israel as a second class citizen than as a first class citizen in Cairo, Gaza, Amman or Ramallah.“ Khaled Abu Toameh. Journalist, April 22, 2009 “... I am a proud Israeli citizen but that doesn’t mean I can’t criticize it…. The existence of discrimination in a state does not mean it is an apartheid state…There is a big difference between apartheid and discrimination,”... “In an apartheid regime, there is no possibility of judicial review, because the judges are appointed by the regime and all serve one ideology... There is a very strong, independent Supreme Court in Israel. In an apartheid regime [unlike in Israel] there is no place to go to argue against the government,” Dr. Mohammed Wattad, an Israeli-Palestinian Member of the Scholars for Peace in the Middle East, a 2010 interview What do prominent Israeli Arabs say?
