What is immigration intelligence? Bali Process Ad Hoc Working Group Workshop on Immigration Intelligence Best Practice Auckland, New Zealand, 7-10 February 2012 Bill Pettitt Principal Intelligence Advisor Department of Immigration & Citizenship, Australia

What is intelligence? Intelligence is the result of a process involving the evaluation, analysis, integration and interpretation of disparate pieces of information, usually in conjunction with existing intelligence

What is immigration intelligence? Immigration intelligence is the term now widely adopted to describe intelligence product resulting from the processing of immigration-related information to warn of threats to immigration borders and to support risk mitigation strategies

What is immigration intelligence? Best described as a process of the collection of information -about people, situations, incidents, knowledge about the way people and organisations do things, why they do them, and how they operate in a certain set of circumstances – Then it’s drawing together of the pieces of information and knowledge to come up with a coherent, predictive picture – including any limitations on the completeness and validity of that picture.
