Presentation transcript:

Recognizing Mr. Right A poor choice begins with the kind of person you date or hang out with. A poor choice of friends, especially boyfriends, will lead to a poor marriage choice. Poor choices in dating reveals how you see yourself.

Recognizing Mr. Right 1.He is a passionate Christian, or wants to be soon after he hears the gospel. “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness?” (2 Cor. 6:14) “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm” (Pr. 13:20). Choose a spiritual leader (2 Ch. 27:6; 34:27)

Recognizing Mr. Right 2.He is self-controlled (the foundation of maturity) “Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city” (Pr. 16:32)

Recognizing Mr. Right 2.He is self-controlled (the foundation of maturity) He has never been addicted to a chemical He is not a womanizer He has never lied to you He does not push you for intimacy He does not have a lack of direction He does not look for the easy path; is willing to make sacrifices to do what is right

Recognizing Mr. Right 3.He is energetic & diligent “Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest” (Pr. 6:6-8). He is able to balance work with relationships (Pr. 23:4-5) He has a servant’s heart (Mt. 20:25-28)

Recognizing Mr. Right 4.He is confident, but not arrogant “For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned” (Rom. 12:3).

Recognizing Mr. Right 4.He is confident, but not arrogant “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid” (Pr. 12:1) “Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment. A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion” (Pr. 18:1-2).

Recognizing Mr. Right 5.He is happy. He smiles & laughs a lot. “All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast” (Pr. 15:15). Ecc. 9:11—12:1 He is an optimistic person who loves to live, but always in light of eternity. You feel safe, not fearful of how he will act or react in various circumstances.

Recognizing Mr. Right 6.He is affectionate in words & deeds, to you, his parents, siblings, & friends “A friend loves at all times and a brother is born for adversity” (Pr. 17:17). He almost never hurts your feelings: “A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit” (Pr. 15:4). “The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse” (Pr. 10:32).

Recognizing Mr. Right 6.He is affectionate in words & deeds, to you, his parents, siblings, & friends He is beside himself in love with you (he is enraptured with your love—Pr. 5:20). He loves you at least as much as you love him.

Recognizing Mr. Right 7.He is your other half You complement one another (Gen. 2:18). You bring out the best in each other. He highly respects you: “the heart of her husband safely trusts in her” (Pr. 31:11). He appreciates your qualities beyond your looks: “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

Recognizing Mr. Right 8.He is wise “Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land” (Pr. 31:23). It is seen in how he handles his life and financial decisions: “Prepare your outside work; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house” (Pr. 24:27).

Recognizing Mr. Right 9.He is much more handsome than you think you deserve. “He is altogether lovely (desirable, ESV), this is my beloved and this is my friend O daughters of Jerusalem” (SS 5:16). No man wants to be married to a woman who struggles with admiring & desiring him.

Recognizing Mr. Right 10.You are within the same range when it comes to cleanliness of self & property “Whoever blesses his neighbor with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, will be counted as cursing” (Pr. 27:14). He respects the work you do in the home & will not create extra work for you. He will help you without making you feel like he did you a favor or are indebted.
