High school students should not have to start school before 8:00 am. There are several studies that support this idea. "Teenagers need about 91/2 hours of sleep a night (about two more hours more than adults)," says Mary Carskadon (“Does the school bell ring too soon?”). A recent study has confirmed that students sleep, on average, considerably less than this during weekdays - an average of just under eight hours per night - and even less on weekends (Loessl).
