A.A.20 Factor algebraic expressions completely, including trinomials with a lead coefficient of one

 Weeks ago, Javier and Yanvier were learning how to factor during UR.

 Yanvier: Find numbers. When you multiply them, this, and add, this.  Javier: Yes. When factoring this, I need to find numbers when you add them is 2....and when you multiply them is 1.

 Javier: So this is the answer, because… =2 and 1 x 1 = 1

 Javier: Well, I need a number that adds to 5 and multiplies to 4, sooo….(Javier calculates in his head). The numbers must be 1 and 4.  This is because 1+4=5 and 1x4=4. Here’s the solution.

 Javier and Yanvier did a great job finding and remembering patterns.  They used one problem as a model. This helped make other problems more easy.  Work habits shown: Listening to each other / not dominating conversation in Unison Reading They had no need to ask a teacher for help. They learned how to factor by helping each other.

 Go to Regents Prep ALGEBRA/AV6/Ltri1.htm ALGEBRA/AV6/Ltri1.htm for more help with factoring.
