6 Topics addressed in 1st meeting 1.Terms of reference Mirror Group and modus operandi ETPGAH Conclusion: recommendations ETPGAH are in general very relevant for the Netherlands. 2.Clarification of positions and interactions of ETPGAH, SCAR-CWGAH, FP-7 agenda and ERA-net Animal diseases 3.Registration procedures and thresholds for pharma industry

7 Main conclusions 1st meeting National level Research chain (fundamental to farm) interacts poorly with industry Co-operation with industry is hampered by competition between companies Co-operation with human health research should be improved European level Strong support for European Centre for Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases Co-operation with human health policy and research should be improved

8 2nd (final) meeting Agenda: discussion of priorities in draft Action Plan Major comments and recommendations: More and sharper choices needed in research programming Need for stronger interaction and co-operation between domains of animal and human health Need for European Centre for Epidemiology and Infectious diseases is urgent; concern about continuity of budget if physical instead of virtual; task areas defined Special attention required for activities contributing to a consistent European approach of regulatory issues

9 Plan to continue (from 2008 on) Terms of reference: Input in (inter)national research agendas from a shared opinion or mutual understanding of Dutch stakeholders; Improvement of understanding and co-operation among stakeholders on the national level Improvement of co-operation between human and animal health institutions Modus operandi: informal platform with participation of human health institutions working in the field of zoonoses (both food-borne and non food-borne)

10 Direction of national research funding Under construction because of recent National Policy Agenda Animal Health. Longlist of topics: Vaccine development for AI, AHS and RVF BT-vaccination Optimisation of vaccination strategies Emerging zoonoses (also in companion animals) Biology of vectors Prevention and monitoring in non commercial animals Differentiation of animal health policy Elaboration of the OIE compartment concept Improvement of early warning systems and tools The concept of general disease resistance
