Student Activities Committee Objectives 1.Understand the needs of student members in region and create student activities to engage them for better future 2.Increase student membership in growing countries and collaborate with GOLD for successful transition of students 3.Increase interaction between Region to Sections ad Sections to Student branches Projects / Tasks 1.Coordinate regular award/recognition activities 2.Establish sub-region wide student networks and provide platform to student members in order to increase the collaboration between Region->Section, Section->SBs, SBs - > Students / volunteers 3.Re-activate and Re-engage student branches who are inactive to encounter the problem of student retention and inactive student branches. Student Membership Statistics (Jan 2014) 2014 January R10 Total Membership: 115,337 –54,540 (47.28%) are Students % increase!  In 2013: 48,153 (45%) were Students 54,540 Total Student membership –16,581 GSM members –37, 959 Student members 126, 541 Global Student Membership –54,540 (43%) are in R10  2013: 41%. –29% is the Global Average of Students in Regions  22% in 2013

Student Branches Statistics (Dec 2013) 2,516 Global Student Branches –1059 (42%) Student Branches belongs to R10  In 2013: 949 Student Branches (40%) belongs to R10 –400+ Student Branches have <10 members –200+ Student Branches have 0 members We need help. Please attend Student Retention Workshop tomorrow to know how to counter this issue!

A few Questions? Fact: We have approximately 50% student members. What percentage of Section budget you spent on students? How many executive committee members you have in your Section? –SAC? –SSR? Student members are future of your Section. Please support the student activities in your Section

How does this project help you meet your committee’s objectives?: Bottom-up network construction fits student activities including better understanding of IEEE membership value as well as recruiting new members. Budget breakdown: –Section / Council (country) level congress support $2,000 –New projects to engage students and benefit Section$1,000  Only Section supported activities will be supported Project Milestones leading to completion: –Detailed plan in each sub-region (April) –Selection of new sections (April) –Events coordinated (Nov), –Wrap-up and survey (Dec)

Appendices: Project 3 – Re-activating SBs and Increase Student Retention Project description: IEEE Region 10 has the highest number of inactive student branches among all the regions and also highest number of students not renewing their membership (retention). How does this project help you meet your committee’s objectives?: This project will focus on conducting activities to counter this problem directly. Supporting Student branches financially (in collaboration with Sections) will kick start and we will check if the model is working Budget breakdown: –Support 10 student branches financially in different Sections$2,000 Project Milestones leading to completion: –Identify potential student branches with Section (April) –Award some conditional money (Jun) –Provide on-going support and guidance (July), –Monitor progress (Dec)
