Presentation transcript:

 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. (Hebrews 5:12-14)

 About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing (Heb 5:11).  Thayer Definition: (Dull)  1) slow, sluggish, indolent, dull, languid Languid: 1. Flagging; drooping; hence, feeble; weak; heavy; dull; indisposed to exertion. The body is languid after excessive action, which exhausts its powers. 2. Slow; as languid motion. 3. Dull; heartless; without animation.

 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food (Heb 5:12).  Regress  1. To go back; move backward.  2. To return to a previous, usually worse or less developed state.

 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child (Heb 5:13).  The word profits (2 Tim 3:16-17).  Immature people can’t act maturely (1 Cor. 3:1-4).  Thayer Definition: (righteousness)  1) in a broad sense: state of him who is as he ought to be, righteousness, the condition acceptable to God 1a) the doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of God 1b) integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking feeling, and acting

 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins (2 Peter 1:8-9). Ineffective: 1) free from labour, at leisure. 2) lazy, shunning the labour which one ought to perform. Unfruitful: 1) metaphorically without fruit, barren, not yielding what it ought to yield.

 We will have difficulty understanding  We will regress  We will remain immature  We will be unproductive  Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:10-11).
