NASA SCaN Service Management Workshop Summary CSSA Service Management Working Group London, UK October 2010 John Pietras Global Science and Technology, Inc, Greenbelt, MD, USA

25-30 October 2010 Service Management Working Group 2 Introduction  Representatives of NASA’s Space Communication and Navigation Networks (Space Network, Deep Space Network, and Near-Earth Network) met on September to review the degree to which SCCS-SM Blue-1 meets their requirements  The NASA SCaN Office has mandated that SCCS-SM be supported by the 3 networks  Tightest time requirements presented by the Space Network Ground Segment Sustainment (SGSS) Project  Contract has been awarded  Schedules call for PDR in early spring, detailed designs in ~1 year  SGSS is contractually obligated to use SCCS-SM Blue-1  SGSS is being considered as the possible model for and/or first implementation of the future SCaN SM portal

25-30 October 2010 Service Management Working Group 3 Findings  SCCS-SM Blue-1 meets 80% or more of the SM requirements for each of SN, DSN, and NEN  However, the shortfalls are significant and must be augmented before SCCS-SM can be used for SN and DSN  NEN itself has only a few very minor current requirements that are not currently met, but SCaN expects NEN SM to become more sophisticated  Shortcomings exist across multiple facets of SCCS-SM, e.g.:  Modes of operation/configuration of managed resources Tracking services PN encoding of data Additional encoding schemes Simulation service  Scheduling flexibility mechanisms More flexibility in scheduling of specific-period Service Packages Support for rule-based scheduling  Information entity lifecycle/state machine considerations Need to be able to replace a CSP-I before it has been accepted Need to be able to have a CM operator act in lieu of UM in contingency situations

25-30 October 2010 Service Management Working Group 4 Plan Forward  Building the SGSS SM capability on a refactored SCCS-SM is the ideal solution, but SGSS schedules will require solutions before a “Blue-2” can be completed  NASA Data Standards program will be working closely with SN and SGSS Project to:  Identify specific items that must be addressed by SM and  Create SGSS modifications of SCCS-SM that incorporate the needed changes To the greatest extent possible, SGSS modifications will be coordinated with the NGSMWG o Some modifications will have applicability to SN only; others will have broader applicability  NGSMWG will use the SGSS modifications as a source of requirements for Blue-2 (along with requirements from the other Agencies and DSN)  Blue-2 will be the standard for use in the integrated SCaN SM interface Support for DSN requirements Support for evolutional growth in managed resources and management capabilities
