Fond du Lac Mission Statement The Ojibwe Schools are dedicated to providing a quality education, which focuses on integrating the Ojibwe culture into all students’ learning experiences. Nicole Haglund My name is Nicole Haglund, but I go by Ms. Nikki. It is my first year at Fond du Lac Ojibwe School. I am very excited that I was given this opportunity to work with kindergarten. Throughout my college years I worked at a preschool teaching 2-4 year olds. It is such a rewarding experience to see the children learn and grow throughout the years. I graduated from St. Scholastica with a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary/Middle School Education. I am a descendant of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. I took Ojibwe language courses at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community college and continued that journey completing the Ojibwe Language and Culture Education program at St. Scholastica. I truly enjoy incorporating the language and history into our every day learning.

Jennifer Bartsch Boozhoo and Welcome to Kindergarten! This is my first year at FDLOJS and I am thrilled to be a part of our youngest students’ early elementary learning experiences. I graduated from Bemidji State University with a degree in Elementary and Middle School Education and have extensive experience as a teacher, volunteer, and parent in a variety of Head Start, elementary, and middle school classrooms. Students in my classroom are creative, inquisitive, and compassionate members of our small community. They care deeply about one another, Mother Earth, and learning the skills they need to grow as successful leaders of the future. I warmly invite you to visit both of the Fond du Lac Ojibwe School’s kindergarten classrooms to learn how your child will learn and grow during this most important and exciting time!

Kindergarten Expectations Expectations: Be potty-trained Be able to manage full kindergarten day (7:45-3:15) with minimal separation anxiety Write own name legibly Demonstrate basic social skills: Taking turns, sharing, using words Additional Expectations from the MN Early Learning Standards: Recognize and name some letters of the alphabet—especially those in own name. Engage in writing using letter-like symbols to make letters or words Enjoy reading and being read to Follow directions that involve a two or three-step sequence of actions Demonstrate ability to count in sequence Demonstrate understanding of one-to-one correspondence Identify and name common shapes Write numbers 0-10
