Safety Culture Survey Results – Q412 I believe efforts to improve Health and Safety are encouraged and recognized92% My supervisor visits with me in my workplace82% I am encouraged to report concerns even when no harm is done89% My concerns are respected and addressed78% The Lab adapts quickly and learns from errors65% Safe work procedures are fairly and consistently enforced77% My work environment is maintained for safe operation94% I have adequate training to recognize and respond to potential safety hazards95% I am confident that co-workers in my work area know what actions to take in an emergency 81% My first priority is accomplishing work safely94% My workgroup questions things that could go wrong76% My supervisor understands how my work is performed85% My supervisor makes sure my work is performed as planned77% My supervisors first priority is accomplishing our work safely89% Safety practices and attitudes at JLab significantly reduce the chance of a catastrophic event 88% Agree / Strongly Agree

Now What? Need to re-emphasize reporting Are we too focused on the schedule that we forget to look at the activities that make up the schedule? Need to continue focus on new employees and students Need to continue focus on Pre-Job Briefings Need to focus on avoiding soft tissue injuries –Specific training for groups that perform material handling What about subs? –long term subs share our culture –Subs are reporting injuries –Civil construction injury rates are low: TRC – 1.9, DART – 0.38 But significant near-misses –Job planning/recognition of hazards in workplace is a concern Changes to contract requirements, will evaluate effectiveness in FY13 Using pre-bid & pre-performance meetings to emphasize expectations
