The Context Keur Soce Health Post receives about women per week for vaccinations (Monday is vaccination day). Ministère de la Santé et l’Action Sociale

Intervention Areas

Design of Health Services Integration FP fully integrated into services offered by health post Remain focused on vaccinations Offer information at same time as vaccination

Process of Integration Orientation for manager level buy-in Training of clinic providers (nurses, midwives, matrons, CHWs) Data collection for vaccinations and FP services Data analysis by district health teams

Results/Key Findings April 2012 to March 2013: 561 FP informational sessions; 200 clinics; 10 regions 27% adopted modern method (4,773 women out of 18,000)

Program Implications Immunization services good opportunity to deliver services and reduce unmet need for FP Integration saves time and money Quality interpersonal communication is critical new user rates vary with the quality of counseling

Final thoughts When replicated nationwide, the integration model could benefit more than 3.1 million women of reproductive age in Senegal to effectively and safely plan their families while reducing maternal and child mortality.
