Will use a newly developed Role Modelling approach to tackle Physical inactivity/sedentary behaviour in adults/ teenagers Alcohol misuse and abuse by both teenagers/adults A 12-week Programme which will focus on PA. Deliver a preventative message around the risk factors of CHD, alcohol abuse and misuse Address emotional health & well-being Set foundations for positive lifelong relationships between parents & children WHAT IS THE ACTIVE FAMILIES PROGRAMME (AFP)?
To Date Co-ordinator in post Training framework and delivery programmed developed ‘Active Families’ Launched Engagement of local community organisations-( schools, youth service, community groups, HLCs, council departments) Identification of trainers (3 per council area)
Promote Active Families Raising profile locally of Active Families Use existing networks Engagement with schools/forums Community Active Hero’s Profile Families
2-Phase Recruitment PHASE 1 - Trainers 15 Trainers begin 6-week YMCA Lifestyle Management Award 2 Units 1. Basic Principles of managing lifestyle change 2. Lifestyle factors and their impact on health and well-being
Phase 2 – Recruit Families Each Active Family Trainer (post April 09) to recruit 15 local families. 12 week programme with 2 hrs group contact & 3 hrs distant support Targeting disadvantaged families Signpost/Link with local support agencies and programmes Incentive based
