Main principles and priorities in Education in Kazakhstan Free Education Public-accessable Education From 1997 President has adopted the Programme for Informatization of Secondary Education and as the result in % of schools in Kazakhstan have computers, 15% has Internet access New technologies attraction into the Education process Long-life learning and interactivity

Difficulties which meets Education System of Kazakhstan Difficulties which meets Education System of Kazakhstan Geographical remoteness, economic and demographic situation creates the following difficulties in Education System: - isolation of remote schools from developed centers; - lack of information and difficulties in information access; - lack of qualified teachers; - lack of pedagogical materials

KATELCO - National satellite TV broadcasting and broadband data operator, having it’s technologies is ready to provide services for schools KATELCO - was established in 1995 KATELCO owns and operates of National Network of Satellite TV and data transmission in Kazakhstan From 2001 KATELCO started implementation of Direct-to-Home Satellite Digital TV project called KATELCO PLUS KATELCO has experience in the International projects implementation funded by the European Commission in the IST Fifths Framework Programme (DENEMAand TeleInViVO projects, Eurasia On’Line 98 Conference)

Together with the Ministry of Education KATELCO started implementation of Distance Learning project called «Satellite Channel of Distance Learning»: KATELCO is responsible for technical support. Technically it based on KATELCO PLUS technologies ( Center of Informatization of the Ministry of Education is responsible for content (

Results by the middle of October 2002 Educational video lessons are broadcasting 2 hours per day, 5 days per week Network includes Center of Informatization with it’s branches in different part of the country, 43 schools in Eastern Kazakhstan, 68 schools in Western Kazakhstan and 208 in Pavodar oblast 43 schools 68 schools 208 schools

ISSUES TO BE DISCUSSED Main question – content. The organization, elaboration, and well-timed reaction for feedback from schools, who are participating in the project of Distance learning. Courses for teachers: how to learn children using new technologies, methodological and psychological aspects of distance learning, etc. Understanding of which material will be apprehended by children more effectively using different technological approaches. Experience exchange, in particular, on teaching methods, new pedagogical approach, TV distance learning sessions design and performance, etc.
