African Centre for Statistics Background Guidebook and the Project –14 activities consolidated by AGNA for Phase I Activity : Develop a guidebook on processing data from administrative sources in national accounts Administrative data –Identified by AGNA as a priority area –Main advantages: Reduced costs Better coverage Improved timeliness Reduced response burden Availability

African Centre for Statistics Creating a “Community of Practice” (CoP) on the Use of Administrative Data Aim and functioning Aim: get African countries’ contributions and share knowledge from their best practices  a practical guidebook Functioning: –Facilitation Team at ECA: Prepares a structured outline for each of the proposed chapters of the guidebook Sends the outline to identified volunteering countries, which follow the best practices in translating the relevant administrative data to national accounts Shares information and documents via website and s, consolidates replies, compiles reports –Country participants: Heads and staff in National Accounts Divisions Prepare brief examples and structured case studies on their experiences of translating the relevant administrative data to national accounts for inclusion in the guidebook Group 1: participate in CoP and contribute to chapters of the book Group 2: participate in CoP through discussions and experience sharing

African Centre for Statistics Creating a “Community of Practice” on the Use of Administrative Data Work plan 1.ECA prepares: Document containing useful information, references Structured outline for each of the chapters on specific administrative data to be sent to countries with experience of following best practices Recommendations for the outline and structure of answers 2.ECA sends out to Heads of NA, shares related documents on-line 3.Identified volunteering countries prepare examples and comprehensive case studies according to the outline on their allotted topics of administrative data and send them back to ECA team 4.ECA collects, reviews and consolidates the examples and case studies and include them in the Guidebook
