Global Rental Alliance Hire and Rental Industry Association Ltd of Australia Orlando Florida 2014

G’DAY! Australia is the worlds largest island but smallest continent covering 7.69 million square kilometres. We stretch 3,700 km north to south and 4,000 km east to west. 80% of our residents live within 100 km of coastline. We have a population of 23 million.

The Lucky Country

AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE Oh yeah, we also have some of the deadliest insects, snakes, animals and plants in the world….

Who are we?

HRIA The Australian hire industry is represented by the Hire and Rental Industry Association (HRIA). Originally formed as State Associations in 1968 then a National structure by a true national industry association representing members in total from July (550 member companies, plus corporate branches and supplier members). In , the industry is expected to generate revenue totalling $6.6 billion. Growth for the past five years is estimated at 5.5% and the next five years at a more conservative 1.5% per annum. (IBIS Report July 2013) The Committees: national executive committee and five state committees (New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia) plus Events and NT Joint Cttee (HRIA/EWPA). These Committees: manage affairs and interests in each state coordinate efforts and issues (such as changes in WHS/OHS legislation or electrical testing & tagging requirements) via the national executive are governed by safety requirements and regulations as well as affordability and efficiencies of operation, as elsewhere in the world.

EWPA Formed in 1987: The industry was growing rapidly across Australia without adequate co- ordination or support services for training and equipment safety. There was no forum to discuss issues affecting the industry. No specific operator training programs No uniform standards of safety, service and ethics of conduct for the industry. The EWPA merged with the HRIA in Membership rapidly grew to over 100. However, with the continuing growth of the elevating work platform market it was decided, by the membership, to once again become an independent, National Association. In January 1998 the Elevating Work Platform Association of Australia was incorporated. Membership is now in excess of 750 and includes the major rental fleet owners, manufacturers, users and supporters of this industry plus 340 Accredited Trainers.

Telescopic Handlers and Industry Compliant Training Industry Compliant Training The TSHA (Telescopic Handler Association of Australia Incorporated) was formed in 2012 to represent this specialised industry and to act as the representative body. It is made up of manufacturers, rental fleet companies, service suppliers, end users, trainers and all involved in this industry. It is still owned by the EWPA. Industry Compliant Training Ltd (ICT) is a newly formed (2014)Registered Training Organisation (RTO) wholly owned by the EWPA. ICT now has the ability to issue nationally recognised statements of attainment for training carried out by its trainers. Previously through the EWPA this was duty of care training, but with the formation of a new company we have re-designed the training and assessment materials and mapped them to nationally recognised units of competence. Currently there are 2 units of competence on scope. The plan in the future is to develop more units such as load and unload plant, apprentice mechanics and competent inspectors.
