Initial Requirements To become a Master Gardener Volunteer: Turn in a background check form Complete 36 hours of training (i.e. twelve 3-hour sessions covering basics) Sign Volunteer Agreement Pass a final exam Complete at least 24 hours of volunteer service within one year of training

Volunteer Hours Why record your hours? Accountability Program justification Individual recognition

Volunteer Service Projects benefit the public, not individuals Should be for UW-Extension- or local MG Association-approved projects –Local agent may have specific requirements –Local associations may have ongoing projects –Ask before starting an independent project!

Volunteer Hours Minimum of 24 hours – just 2 hours per month! Includes travel time, preparation and research time Within a year of completing the classroom sessions
