That’s my story. What’s yours? David Williams President/CEO Leadership Memphis

The Sunrise Context  The average person lives to see 25,000 sunrises during their lifetime  What are you doing with each of the sunrises given to you?  How many more sunrises do you have to do what you want to do?

How we use sunrises become our stories - and why stories matter…  Most commonly stories describe what we have done with our lives…  Our stories define us to a degree…  Stories can be used to visualize where we are going with our lives…  Stories teach us IF we are willing to listen and learn from them…

The power of a story…  The closest distance between two people is a story…  Two sides to a story – and it is important to hear them both…  Stories have a beginning, middle and an end…  Stories can live on and on and on…

Everybody has a story…

My story began day one…

My baby story…

My first community experience story…

Community ICE Involved Committed Engaged Clean-Up Memphis in May Book Sale Run/Walk 5K Ronald McDonald House Senior Center Deliver Meals Mentor Boards Scout Leader 1 Time per month6 Times per month12+ Times per month

1 out of 4 people in Memphis has a bachelors degree or better 200,000 people in Memphis have started a degree but have not completed one

Lot’s of stories…  Everyone has one (at least one)  What’s your story?  Is it written yet?  Is it too late to start?  Can your story be re-written?  What do you want your story to be?

A community is a collection of stories…  Stories are the history of its people  The three “C’s” of a community story  Curiosity  Courage  Commitment

A few quotes of note….  The greatest danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark. - Michelangelo

A few quotes of note…  I cannot be all I ought to be until you are all you ought to be. - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

A few quotes of note… Every sunrise is filled with potential – the potential for you to do something great – even in a small way, the potential for you to do something to make your community a better place – even in a simple way, and the potential to create a story from which others can learn – intentionally and in your own way. - David Williams

That’s my story. What’s yours?
