Purpose of Social Performance Indicators Why is it Important to Report to MIX Market? Measuring, monitoring and reporting on social performance are important because: It promotes a focus on achieving social, as well as financial goals. It demonstrates transparency to donors, investors, and other external stakeholders. It clarifies current areas of strengths and weaknesses (social, operational and strategic). It allows an MFI to track their performance over time and identify trends. The microfinance industry is evolving in a way where MFIs are increasingly required to be responsible towards the clients and community they operate in and transparent about the achievements of their objectives.

Process for Data Reporting to MIX Note: MFIs that are unable to submit their information over the internet will still be able to submit their data by mailing it in to MIX. MIX is collecting social performance data through a combined SP/FP data collection tool and an online platform.  Combined SP/FP tool: this collects social performance data that is time-bound (e.g., number women borrowers, employment created, enterprises financed, etc.). MFIs should report this type of data every year. This year reporting form can be downloaded here:  On line platform: MIX has created an online platform where MFIs can report the type of social performance data related to their policies (e.g., mission statement, governance, consumer protection, etc.). This type of information does not necessarily change every year so MFIs should fill this out only if they did not report SP data to MIX in 2011 or if they want to update their policies. The link to the social performance profile editor will be ed to MFIs by MIX analyst once the data collection starts (March 2012)  Poverty questionnaire: MFIs who report to track poverty data will receive a separate online poverty data questionnaire to fill out with poverty data of their clients

In addition, MFIs need to send in a social rating not older than 2009 or a social audit and provide supporting documentation to help MIX review this social performance information. More information on this certificate and the types of reports or information necessary for data review can be found here: quality/recognition-for-data-quality#ixzz1nbEicWiZ quality/recognition-for-data-quality#ixzz1nbEicWiZ All MFIs fulfilling these criteria will be recognized by MIX through a personalized Certificate of Data Quality and a press release on MIX website at the end of 2012.
