MARKETING & Designing a magazine Lesson aims To make sure our magazines are designed to work well for our ‘target market’ To recall what is meant by the term ‘marketing’, ‘sector’, ‘survey’, ‘questionnaire’ and Lesson : recap - collecting together tasks

Every day millions of pounds are spent by consumers on magazines and newspapers. Marketing is key to this! How did we make sure our magazine would sell to the people we were aiming at ?

The issues Marketing is one of the things that students think they know about … Give an example of a company ‘marketing’ a product that you have really wanted to buy. How did they get your interest ? What media did they use ?

GROUP TASK In groups of 3 come – using all of the experience we have gained in the task so far ~ Come up with a definition of Marketing and what it involves

In the market place those with magazines to sell search for those with money who want to buy them. Magic is needed to bring them together. This magic is marketing! Marketing is about finding out what the customer wants and providing it. WHAT IS MARKETING ? Is this the same as your definition ?

What would you need to find out if you wanted to launch a new magazine? Research into what the customer wants Designing and developing a magazine that meets customer wants Producing a magazine of the the right quality Deciding who your customers are and targeting them. So what have we to do to finish our project task ? Display the data from the questionnaire – Excel and the ‘Chart Wizard’ Finish the ‘questionnaire’ using ‘Word’ and text boxes Using ‘Publisher’ create your magaine layout Remember to use all of the layout parts we expect to see on magazines : the Title, barcodes, etc….
