Current WQ dataflow – Format and Automisation Regional workshop on SoE water quantity reporting January 2013, Skopje, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia 9 AL BA Mostly in electronic format RS Data of were performed on IBM OS/390 platform, while data from 2007 and further are on Windows platform. All input data are automated and reports are predefined by output requirements. ME All WQ dataflow is in analogue format, 70% of which is also in electronic format. Optimization includes automation of existing hydrological stations and purchasing of equipment for discharge measurements, especially at high water levels. HR All available WQ dataflow is in electronic format. About 20% of the current hydrological stations are equipped for automatic transfer of water level data. Another 10 % of the monitoring network is on process for automisation which will improve the conditions for better and more reliable measurements. MK Modernization of the existing hydrological network began with the construction of a part of the hydrological stations operated by the HMA under the project called The River Monitoring System Project (RIMSYS) which is a collaborative project undertaken and supported by Switzerland and Macedonia. This project covered a total of 18 automatic hydrological stations. Due to lack of financial and human resources only one hydrological yearbook was published. Data on water level and water temperature are real–time available from all 18 river monitoring stations on the internet. Only a small percent of the water quantity data is available in electronic format. XK All water level and flow data of Kosovo’s hydrometric stations for the period before the war in Kosovo are digitized in Excel format. All hydrometric stations are equipped with sensors that record water level. Plans for installation of several stations equipped with instruments for access in real-time, as well as 60 Automatic Rain Gauge throughout the territory of Kosovo.

How should the WQ dataflow process be improved ? Regional workshop on SoE water quantity reporting January 2013, Skopje, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia 10 AL BAInstalling a database management system, organizing data dissemination, training RSImproving QA on data dissemination. MEForming of monitoring network to the number of stations adopted by Master plan in Montenegro (51 stations). Introduction of hydrological Yearbook on the basis of observed and measured data during the year. Staff training for the use of existing databases and development of WISKI base for the future period. Water information system is prescribed by law, but no funds allocated to establish it; data are obtained from the municipal structures mostly in analogue format and are often insufficient HR Further development of inter institutional cooperation on data collection and exchange as well as development of additional products required for water management for the establishment of a database management system. MK Increasing and improving human resources, modernization, expansion and maintenance of the existing monitoring network, web application for data dissemination XK Repairing hydrometric stations and extending their reactivity with rainfall stations and supply instruments as: sensor for measuring water level and flow, and supply instruments for real-time access to the main rivers. Software purchase and training organization.

Croatia commented that none of the institutions has sole authority for systematically monitoring quality control and reporting water quantity data. There is an initiative to nominate Hrvatske vode as National Topic Centre on Water, which should enable better data flow, data collection, data control, data analysis and development of new products including those from questionnaire. Harmonization process is ongoing. Serbia commented that their Statistical Office produces water statistics based on annual Surveys (collecting data from reporting units) for previous year. Collecting, production and dissemination data based on Law on Official Statistics (Official Gazette of RS No. 104/2009). Kosovo commented that currently they have numerous problems regarding technical maintenance, supply and calibration of instruments for hydrometric stations and lack of staff and stimulating work because of small salaries. They have also difficulties in daily level conversion and formation of flow curves of sustainable streams.
