A student who withdraws from high school after having reached the legal age to do so is the drop-out. The children who have actually dropped out of school appear to be still registered with their schools for as long as they remain with in the mandated age limit. So the rate doesnt reflect the reality everytime.

Studies show that although students are registered in schools and their participation in the system is ensured,a certain proportion is unable to complete the compulsory programme due to a range of reasons and ultimately drop out of the compulsory school programme.

There are three main reasons in Turkey for drops-out. One of the important factor linked to social, cultural and family-based conditions is the language. Especially in the Eastern part of Turkey, the children who have dropped out of school do not speak Turkish at home.Another reasons such as economic difficulties, child labor, distance to school, discouragement, family neglect, discrimination and social restrictions against girls.  In some families in the eastern region of the country, parents feel there is no need to send girls to school. They must do housework, look after their little brothers and sisters, and then get married

Gender inequality in education is relatively more pronounced in Southeastern and Eastern Anatolia, particularly in Diyarbakır,Şanlıurfa and Mardin. These provinces, which occupy the lowest ranks in terms of socioeconomic development, are also known to be the areas where both the absolute and relative rate of students dropping out of basic education is high Gender inequality in education is relatively more pronounced in Southeastern and Eastern Anatolia, particularly in Diyarbakır,Şanlıurfa and Mardin.  They can only work in a place/organization that doesnt require educational qualifications. Some of the occupations donot require educational qualifications. (Working as a builder, shop assistant, waiter working in factories in low salaries.)

 However the numbers of these kind of jobs that do not require educational qualifications have been decreasing day by day as we are at the heart of globalization. So in Turkey, it is inevitable to see some progresses in drop- outs. They have been aware of this fact and also they can easily reach at information because of technology.

 As a result, They try to go on their education using different ways. One of the most preferable one is the informal education including private, training courses

 I can summarize as follow:Dropping out of the school is not only cause by the education system and the school itself but it is also influenced by social, cultural, and economic factors.

 Priorities and concentrations vary between regions moreever ıt was also seen that reasons for dropping out differed in girls and boys.
