© Good Hifi 2007 Remove old ring

© Good Hifi 2007 Remove old ring Cut the old ring. Remove as much as possible. Beware: the old ring is pretty dirty stuff. Be careful with your clothes, table cover etc.

© Good Hifi 2007 Remove from back

© Good Hifi 2007 Remove from back Use a knife or your nail to remove as much foam and glue from the back of the membrane as you can. By bending the cone a little it gets easier. Don’t bend to far! If you remove the ring it’s possible you tear a small layer of paper of the woofer’s cone – that’s no problem (former picture).

© Good Hifi 2007 Clean the frame

© Good Hifi 2007 Clean the frame Cut as much foam us you can, using a sharp knife. Cut as much old glue as you can – you can leave some glue if you want.

© Good Hifi 2007 Remove foam-left over

© Good Hifi 2007 Remove foam – left over On the frame there will be some foam left. Remove it by using a cloth with some alcohol (or similar) on it. If you want, you can try to remove any grease left on the frame.

© Good Hifi 2007 Check woofer

© Good Hifi 2007 Check woofer Look at the membrane and the frame. Is it really clean? Press the woofer downwards a few times.

© Good Hifi 2007 Glue ring to cone

© Good Hifi 2007 Glue ring to cone ‘Fold’ the ring behind the cone. Lift the cone a little, put a little glue between ring (inner ‘lip’) and cone. Repeat this, working your way around the woofer. Spread the glue if you want. You can also spread the glue by moving the ring around a little.

© Good Hifi 2007 Apply pressure

© Good Hifi 2007 Apply pressure Push the ring to the back of the cone. Remove any glue that’s to much. Put something on the inner side of the ring applying pressure to ring and come. You can use a cup, a small pan, ….. Leave it for a few hours.

© Good Hifi 2007 Glue ring to frame

© Good Hifi 2007 Glue ring to frame Is the inner part glued OK?? Glue is dry?? Lift the ring a little, put a little glue between ring (outer part) and frame. Repeat this, working your way around the woofer. Spread the glue if you want – slide your finger around the ring. Apply pressure, using a tool like a pan…

© Good Hifi 2007 Glueing to frame - hint Center the ring? Play a very low tone (5 Hz / 10 Hz) over the woofer at a very low level while the glue is still wet. The woofer will tend to center itself.

© Good Hifi 2007 Test woofer

© Good Hifi 2007 Test woofer The glue is dry? Play my test-signals over the woofer. Listen if you hear any scraping sounds. Push the woofer (while not playing!) a few times – feel if there’s any scraping. If the woofer is not centered (i.e. you feel or hear the scraping), remove the ring an apply another one – centered. Everything OK? Enjoy your ‘new’ woofer!
