Second Hand market in Belgium - Sector Structure 1. « Brocantes » (Flea markets) 2. Internet – specialised magazines 3. For profit organisations 4. Non-profit organisations The latter two categories are present in the country with a coverage of approximately 650 second hand shops. QualiProSecondHand project – Leonardo da Vinci II

Brocantes - Flea Markets * Widely spread phenomenon with apx brocantes every year * Some are very popular and renowned * Basically everyone can participate * Some limitations on items that one can sell expecially for new products * Not so many are professionals QualiProSecondHand project – Leonardo da Vinci II

Specialised press 1. Specialised magazines once very popular are loosing ground vs. websites 2. Distributed door-to-door for free 3. Mainly for cars and properties. Little else. 4. Some have now their own internet sites QualiProSecondHand project – Leonardo da Vinci II

Social economy networks: some figures KVK – Criteria to be member * A collecting service and 50 shop accessible to all. * Reuse one of the objectives. Collection is free of charge. * A minimum of five different types of goods for sale. * The centre must work professionally, contribute to reuse and recycling and to sustainable development, * Reuse has always priority over recycling, * Create employment for underprivileged groups, * Collaborate on a structural basis with the governments, * Recognize the role of the federation in case of conflict.
