Project Background Small meat processors across Europe struggling to survive – lots of reasons Lack of demand for their products is NOT one of them! Key role in European meat supply chain, but –Drops in competitiveness & profit –Results in loss of income, jobs & quality of life

Project Background External factors INTERNAL obstacles –Short term focus on operations –Lack of innovation & marketing skills Existing VET courses –Food science –Technology –Hygiene –Compliance

Project Background Existing business development courses –too generic –overwhelming –costly time & money Little specific training in innovation & marketing for the sector that is accessible

Project Aim To build a dynamic on-line learning platform that directly addresses the needs of the EU meat processing sector (SME’s)

Project Objectives Complement the technical skills with skills in innovation and added value Improve quality of training by basing this SLMSC course on successful pilot programme “Master Meat Circle” in Ireland Adapt the course content to make it culturally, linguistically, pedagogically & technically suitable for use as flexible training tool to complement existing VET courses

Where Are We Now? On – line training materials nearing completion For use by individual businesses or in a classroom setting Work through module by module or take individual modules as suits their needs Self assessment exercises & quizzes Certificate of Completion
