Interoperability Scenarios All Working Groups Meeting May, Rome, Italy

Scenario 1: Producing summary versions of compound multimedia historical documents Managing multimedia documents related to the history and other aspects of EU towns Each compound object consists of several parts: text, video, 3d models, etc. The parts have been brought together from various sources Each compound object has links to other compound objects Various policies are governing every object

Scenario 1: Producing summary versions of compound multimedia historical documents Main Interoperability Challenges / Questions Content Domain Issues Content & Functionality Domain Issues Content & User Domain Issues Content & Policy Domain Issues Content & Quality Domain Issues Architecture Domain Issues

Scenario 2: Developing a "gateway" Digital Library for cross-Digital Library Objects Retrieval Integrating the DLs of two News Agencies, which are preserving articles and reports on a daily basis with the aim to provide a portal that will support the search in past issues and reports in both archives a new service to their end-users by enabling them to retrieve reports on the same subject produced by both agencies

Scenario 2: Developing a "gateway" Digital Library for cross-Digital Library Objects Retrieval Main Interoperability Challenges / Questions Data – Function: Function interface level issues clearly depend on the compatibility of input/output data User – Function: Functions represent activities that are performed by users Policy – Function: Function constraints i.e. pre/post conditions can be considered as policies applied on a function level Architecture-Function: Functions are implemented via architectural components and share similar properties and interfaces

Scenario 3: Collaborative Digital Libraries Two DLs (e.g. an academic and a research one) aim to interoperate in a way that their users can access them as if they were a single DL Both DLs should maintain compatible information about the users Both DLs should collaborate in order to serve not only as a source of information and knowledge but also as a meeting and interaction place

Scenario 3: Collaborative Digital Libraries Main Interoperability Challenges / Questions User Domain Issue User & Functionality Domain Issues User & Policy Domain Issues User & Quality Domain Issue

Other Scenarios Main Interoperability Challenges / Questions Scenario 4: Depositor Choice Scenario 5: Audiovisual collection management policies Scenario 6: Appraisal Policy Scenario 7: Content Replication Scenario 8: Policy precision Scenario 9: Metadata Evaluation Scenario 10: Compliance to Standards Scenario 11: Policy Consistency
