Kivach is probably the most famous waterfall in Russia. It is situated on the Suna River in the Kondopoga District, Republic of Karelia and gives its name to the Kivach Natural Reserve, founded in This 10.7-meter-high tiered waterfall is considered to be the second highest plain waterfall in Europe, after the Rhine Falls. The waterfall is situated in the center of Kivach reserve 60 kms away from Petrozavodsk. A beautiful forest path goes to it. Approximately thousand of tourists visit the place every year.

The Nature Reserve of Kivach is located to the north of Petrozavodsk (65 km). A large part of the territory of the Reserve is occupied by forests, in which pine, fir and birch predominate. The average age of the trees is 120 years, however, there are 305- year-old pine trees growing here. A rare tree species, the Karelian birch, also grows there. It is famous for wood structure and luxurious furniture and original souvenirs are made of Karelian birch. There is a small but yet interesting museum of local flora and fauna on the territory of the resort.
