Educational Goal To understand proper methods of wear of the Service Dress and Battle Dress Uniforms

Grooming Standards: Male Hair – must have a tapered appearance. It must not touch the ears or the collar. Moustache – Must be neatly trimmed. Must not extend downward beyond the lip line of the upper lip. Must not extend sideways beyond the sides of the mouth Sideburns – Neatly trimmed, not flared, and will end with a clean, shaven line. Will not extend beyond the bottom of the earlobe.

Grooming Standards: Female Hair – will be neatly arranged and shaped to present a conservative feminine appearance. Hair styles that are not appropriate to the wear of the uniform are not permitted. Cosmetics – must be conservative and in good taste

Grooming Standards: Male (cont.) Jewelry – 1.) rings 2.) wallet (may be worn on figure, but will not show) 3.) necklace (may be worn on figure, but must be under all shirts) Overall appearance – well groomed with assurance that their appearance at all times will reflect credit upon themselves, CAP, and the Air Force.

Grooming Standards: Female (cont.) Jewelry – may wear small spherical, conservative, diamond, gold, white pearl, or silver pierced or clip earrings. Earrings must fit tightly without extending below earlobe except for connecting band on clip earrings. Only one earring per earlobe. Overall appearance - well groomed with assurance that their appearance at all times will reflect credit upon themselves, CAP, and the Air Force.

Battle Dress Uniform Cover – 1.) BDU cover: Worn squarely on head with no hair protruding in front of the cap. When not being worn, it is stowed in either of the lower cargo pockets 2.) CAP baseball cap: Color, unit designation, and cloth or silk screen organizational emblem or badge as prescribed by unit commander. BDU jacket - single-breasted with four bellow pockets with flaps. Long sleeve camouflage pattern(woodland green) may be rolled up. If rolled up, sleeves must be 1” above arm at a 90^ angle.

BDU’s (cont.) BDU trousers - camouflage pattern (woodland green) with button front closure, strap ankle adjustment, and six pockets. Blouse trousers over combat boots. Belt – 1.) Color – dark blue 2.) Buckle – black 3.) Wrap direction to match uniform buttons

BDU’s (cont.) T-shirt – Crew neck, black or brown ONLY Socks – thick, black Blousing bands – will be used between the 2 and 3 eye of the boot, pants will be rolled under to create a tapered appearance. Insignia/patches – 1.) Wing patch - ¾” below left shoulder seam 2.) Reverse American flag - ½” below right shoulder seam Boots – 1.) preferably all leather 2.) highly polished

Blue Service Uniform Cover – Blouse – 1.) Flight Cap – slightly to the right with crease in line with center of forehead. Insignia ½ way between top and bottom of flap, 1 ½” in to left edge 2.) The cover is only worn indoors, and is taken off outdoors. When outdoors, cover is removed on the third step from the door. Blouse – 1.) Shade – light blue 2.) Long sleeve – when wearing this uniform, a tie or a tie tab 3.) Short sleeve – normal uniform rules apply, there are no extra accessories that will be worn

Blues (cont.) Trousers - trim fitted, not bunching or bagging, one break Skirt – no higher than top of knee cap, no lower than bottom Both the trousers and skirt will be a dark, air force blue

Blues (cont.) T-shirt – a white V-neck will be worn underneath the blouse Belt – 1.) color – dark blue 2.) buckle – chrome finish, tip of belt will cover entirety of brass underneath Socks/Nylons – black, long enough that shirt garters will attach Shoes – 1.) leather preferred 2.) highly polished 3.) females: pumps or oxfords are available for wear

Blues (cont.) Collar – females will be ironed down. For both genders, the insignia will be worn 1” parallel to the leading edge and centered Epaulets – The epaulets shall always be buttoned. The officers insignia are worn here. Ribbons (male) – on but not over top edge and centered of left breast pocket. Have PRECEDENCE order. Ribbons (female) - centered between buttons and arm seam, even or up to 1 ½” higher from first buttoned button.

Tips for Uniform Wear Wear cardboard behind insignia, nameplate, and ribbons Use starch when ironing the sleeves and pants for longer-lasting creases Use shirt garters for a tighter, straighter look
