Topics Covered Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) Database What is Drinking Water Watch? Navigating Drinking Water Watch Conclusion 2

Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) Safe Drinking Water Act requires states to monitor public drinking water systems Alaska adopted SDWIS to collect information for the Drinking Water Program SDWIS houses three major categories of Information: Inventory Sampling Monitoring 3

Inventory Includes information such as System location Population served Service connections Water source Water System Facilities Administrative Contact 4

Sampling Information includes lab results for contaminants: Chemical Microbiological Radiological Any contaminant regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act 5

Monitoring Monitoring information contains the schedule for sampling under each EPA Rule, such as Total Coliform Rule Lead and Copper Rule Arsenic Rule The Monitoring and Sampling portion of SDWIS allows the state to compare the two and determine non-compliance (violations) 6

Safe Drinking Water Information System SDWIS Plan Review Status Component Sanitary Survey ESS Operator Certification Juneau Drinking Water Program General Public Engineering FirmsHealth Services Public Water Systems EPA Labs Add-ons 7

What Is Drinking Water Watch? Web Portal allows anyone to view certain information in SDWIS Look up information on any public water system Provide name or Public Water System ID (PWSID) Area-wide searches for water systems (example: Kodiak island) 8
