Growing Michigan By Jackson, Ayan, and Rachel

Slowing Down Statehood Before becoming a state,Michigan was involved in a war called the Toledo War. It was cause was that Michigan and Ohio were fighting over the Toledo strip. When the war was over the compromise was that Michigan go the northwestern upper peninsula and Ohio got the Toledo strip

Statehood and Governor On January Michigan became a state. At the beginning Steven T. Mason was the governor he was from Virginia. He was born from a very powerful family and. Was a great governor.

Natural resources and Industries Michigan had a lot of natural resources including copper, iron, and white pines. The industries that came out of them were mining and lumbering. In the mining industry you mine to get the copper and iron out of the mine. In the lumber industry they would cut down trees. The benefits of having these industries are that there was jobs and money and people came because of that.

Soo Lock The Soo locks raise lower boats and travel between the great lakes. As the Soo Locks enters a lock gates shut behind it is blocking it in. Lake Superior is about 20 feet higher than lake Huron. That helps the industries because sometimes they need to move there items to somewhere else. That what the Soo locks do
