Learning Together in Dundee Innovative Teachers VIRTUAL CLASSROOM TOUR Background/ Rationale About The idea of "Active Learning Through World Book Events" was initiated by a desire to promote literature and to develop a love of reading at an early age. Celebrating World Book Day on 6 March seemed a natural way to do it. We were keen to encourage partnerships and group collaboration, and therefore our first step was to create groups which would include children from the two age stages, P2 and P7, involved in the project. The first task of the groups was to brainstorm ideas and subsequently create and develop activities with World Book Day as the central theme. Learning partners were also formed between the stages to promote effective relationships between P2 and P7, providing support for P2 pupils and encouraging responsibility in P7. We saw evidence of each of the four capacities of "A Curriculum For Excellence" within the project.

Learning Together in Dundee Innovative Teachers VIRTUAL CLASSROOM TOUR Project Documents Project Events The project was completely pupil led with both teachers acting as facilitators supporting, encouraging and giving advice where and when necessary. The groups initially brainstormed ideas and from this a timetable of events was created. Each group was responsible for the planning, organising and implementing of their chosen activities. Learning partners worked together to produce resources and develop the activities. The timetable of events included: a visit to the local library a book party a dressing up parade for the whole school a book fair designing and making posters to advertise the dressing up parade and book fair charity research presentations Nick Hesketh visit and interview creative writing Project Details
