Embedding Multimedia Embedding multimedia into your Moodle course page can be useful as it means students don’t have to leave the page to view content on other sites
Embedding from YouTube Find the YouTube video which you would like to embed into Moodle and click the share tab
Click on the embed tab and copy the html code which is given
In Moodle add a new resource/activity and select label A label enables text/multimedia to be inserted into the course page Labels may be used: To split up a long list of resources with heading/image To display embedded multimedia (which is what we are going to use it for in this case) To Add a short description
In the Moodle editor click on the html icon The HTML source editor doesn’t just appear in the label resource it also appears in web pages, books, quizzes and other activities. When you see the HTML icon multimedia can be embedded!
Paste the html code into the source editor and click update
Save the label
The video will now be embedded into Moodle
Uploading to the Media Server Click on the Media Server tab
Click on the upload tab Choose the file from your work areaGive the a title and description Select the subject/s the video relates to
Tagging If it is a TV recording it is important it is tagged with the, title, channel and the date and time from when you recorded it in order to satisfy copyright regulations. You put this information in the description box If your videos aren’t tagged correctly they may be removed!
Once the video has been uploaded you receive this message: The video is now processing…. Once it has been uploaded you will receive an and it will appear in the latest video list
Embedding from the Media Server This works in the same way as embedding the You Tube video When you click on the video it will give you the embed code. Copy the code into your Moodle course page using the HTML button as shown previously
Example This is an example of tv series embedded into a book. Each chapter contains a different programme
Copyright The college has the facility to record, store and digitalise educational video and audio content. We as a college have an Educational Recording Agency + license (ERA +) which permits: The recording of all terrestrial, Freeview, radio and television broadcasts. Recordings to be placed in Moodle and played to a class. Recordings to be accessed by students and teachers online from outside the premises. Your own DVDs and CDs cannot be added to Moodle without permission from the copyright holder. This includes College owned materials such as practice audio tests and educational DVDs. Recordings from home are covered by the ERA+ licence so ensure that any recordings are tagged correctly.
