Chemical weathering of rock Lesson 3

Objectives Must recall that chemical weathering changes minerals in rocks Should explain that igneous rock is weathered as it contains minerals Could explain how features in limestone scenery are formed

What causes chemical weathering?

Construct NOT chaos in Science What I’m looking for -Your group to test the rocks and group them according to their reaction -If there is one you are unsure of you must discuss it and make a decision -Your group must be able to explain how you have come to that conclusion

You will be given…………….. Samples of rock Weak acid Stopclock Beakers Samples of minerals

What you need to think about.. What happens to the minerals when the acid is added? How does this relate to the different types of rocks? Does the way in which the rock is formed affect the way in which it is weatherered?
