The Cultural Industry Theory By James Rawlinson

The Cultural Industry Theory The theory was introduced by, Theodor Andorno and Max Horkheimer, Two Germany men who had fled Nazi Germany during world war 2 to United states of America. When they arrived to America they saw the advertising of films, games etc.. They came up with four theories about media texts in America and shows how different it is from Germany in 1940 to America

Standardization and Repetition This theory states how production of media texts are repetitive and use the same plots in the sequels. This links to genres in films such as Horror and Comedy. Horror films use the basic plot of a protagonist and an an antagonist. The protagonist is usually a female, blonde hair to symbolize she's innocent and the antagonist is wearing a mask with a prop such as a knife etc.. A horror film uses the same plot because the owners know that the audience like the way this is made.

Continued… The example used is Scream, this film uses repetition in the sequels, such as the antagonist who wears a mask and the protagonist (blonde). The film producers would make more of this film because the first film made would have produced a lot of money and would’t want to come of the plot because the audience don’t want change.
