A&E activity in Financial year 2012-13 Total number of A&E attendances 41,725 Total number of admissions: 20,0043 Care UK (urgent care centre) referrals: 10,470 Care UK referral that were admitted: 5089

A&E activity in Financial year 2012-13 CDU admissions: 2546 Care UK CDU admissions: 980

What does that mean? Of the 41k patients we see: 16.5K(41.5%) were admitted to a ward 3.5K (8.5%) were admitted to CDU 10K (25%) of these patients are Care UK referrals 4K (40%) of Care UK referrals needed admission to a ward 1K (10%) of Care UK referrals needed admission to CDU

What does that mean? Patients presenting to this A&E have a high disease burden that needs extra care. 25% of these patients are walk in patients.

What does that mean? Given these numbers, is the answer: 1- Closure of this A&E and the acute services? 2- Improve the services in this hospital to provide the needed care for this community?
