France is the 2 nd largest country in Europe it is part of the European community! It has a population of over 62 million Its currency is in euros! It has many very famous monuments and towers like the Eiffel Tower. It is called l’hexagon because of its 6 sided shape!

Breakfast – The French usually start work between 8 and 9 am so breakfast is usually early. Lunch – is usually around 12 noon and they spend about 1 hour on lunch Tea – at tea time the French have something small! French people do not tend to eat between meals!

France has many different types of famous food and drinks. They are said to have a different type of cheese for each day of the year! The French invented “The baguette” which is now a very popular type of bread all around the world! France eat Bread and Cheese, these would be considered staple foods!

Macaroni and Cheese, French Style INGREDIENTS: 2-2/3 cups small elbow macaroni, cooked and kept warm over a water bath For the Béchamel sauce: 2 cups whole milk 2-1/2 Tablespoons unsalted butter 1 generous Tablespoon flour salt and white pepper 2-1/2 Tablespoons grated Gruyère or Comté cheese

PREPARATION: 1. Pour the milk into a small saucepan and bring it to a boil. 2. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter, sprinkle in the flour and stir with a wooden spoon until it just begins to color. Pour half of the boiling milk into the roux, while whisking constantly. 4. When the mixture has thickened, let it simmer for a few minutes and decide if you need to add more of the milk. The sauce should be velvety and light textured. 5. Add the salt and white pepper and continue to simmer for minutes. 6. Place the well drained macaroni in a gratin dish and cover with the béchamel. The sauce should be barely level with the top of the macaroni. 7. Sprinkle the cheese over the macaroni and dot with the remaining butter. 8. Place under a broiler and brown the top. To Serve: Serve hot from the oven.

100 mls milk 1egg 200 grams flour 1 Table spoon Sugar "It's easy to make crepes. Just put everything in the blender except the butter and blend it for about 30 seconds, strain it into a bowl and come back in an hour and cook the crepes." "That's all you have to do!”

The French were normally very good in having a nutritious, balanced diet but at the moment things seem to be changing! In the past a very small percentage of people were obese but now over 11% of people in France are very seriously over weight! This problem in France is due to the change in diet more people are now eating fast and convenience foods instead of proper food! To prepare food, in France, used to take nearly an hour and a half every day now it only takes about 30 minutes!
