Presentation transcript:

A volcano is an opening in the Earth where hot, liquid rock comes out called lava. I.E. Iceland is sitting on one of the openings.

The parts of a volcano are vent, cone, flanks, pipe, feeder pipe, dike, magma chamber and ash

The tectonic plates move apart. The gas and steam inside the magma makes the lava shoot out.

A MUDSLIDE A LANDSLIDE I.E. After a volcano erupts, its vent is blocked by a plug of magma this lets rainwater collect in the crater, forming a lake.

In one day 40 volcanoes could erupt. The word volcano comes from the roman god of fire Vulcan. When St. Helens erupted it blew a chunk out of its self. The biggest volcano in the world is in Hawaii. There are over 1,500 volcanoes that we know of.
