What is the community? Duty to provide a comprehensive and efficient service to all who live, work or study in the area that wish to use it Everyone and Everything!
What links may exist? Many! Schools Other education providers (e.g. FE,HE,Independent) Reading Groups Health sector Other Local and Central Gov’t departments Third Sector Etc, etc
Opportunities for FE Colleges (1) Public Libraries will often:- Promote FE courses Prospectuses, displays, etc Provide premises for courses Maybe free or charged Offering alternative to formal setting Opportunity to get closer to the public
Opportunities for FE Colleges (2) Run joint courses E.g. During Adult Learners Week Broaden access for students to public library facilities and resources cyberLibrary cyberLibrary Links to catalogues and websitescatalogues Author events Special collections
Opportunities for FE Colleges (3) Support reading development E books and audio books Reading Group support Six Book Challenge Man Booker / Orange Prize SW Reading Passport
A project to encourage reading Book reviews Booklists Blog Competition
What ideas for future? Closer links between FE and Public Libraries Establish contact networks Better understanding of resources available Improved access to resources Shared staff expertise Shared staff training Improved promotion of services and resources
