Task 1 Work in a small group to: discuss when you have used the Standards in your teaching career discuss when you think you might need to refer to the Standards in the near future ?

Changes to the Standards From: SITE* (Standard for Initial Teacher Education) and SFR* (Standard for Full Registration) To: The Standards for Registration* (comprising the SPR - Standard for Provisional Registration - and the SFR) From: SCT (Standard for Chartered Teacher) To: The Standard for Career-long Professional Learning From: SfH (Standard for Headship) To: The Standards for Leadership and Management (for middle leaders and Head Teachers) *Mandatory Standards; other standards are supportive

Then and Now …….. The SFR were mainly used in the past for supporting probationer teachers, for classroom observations/monitoring processes and competency cases. All registered teachers will be required to reflect against the appropriate GTCS Standards as part of Professional Update

Key Messages In small groups using a copy of the Standards for Registration, try to identify: 4 key messages/changes that are significant to you as a group What adaptations you would need to make to your current practice to ensure you reflect these changes What your school or local authority could do to help you address these key messages

Values and commitment at the centre of all new Standards; linked to Code of Professionalism and Conduct Themes of sustainability and leadership run through all standards Standard for Provisional Registration illustrated side-by-side with SFR Sections are in different order Section 1 expanded to allow evidence to be gathered about integrity and commitment model appropriate levels of numeracy and literacy in their own professional practice use of word ‘consistently’ in SFR Language updated eg. Reflective Questions Take a moment to think about your own practice ……. How will I use the Standards to support me to identify areas of learning and development to enhance my knowledge, understanding and practice? What aspects of the Standards do I find most challenging? Why? How could these challenges be addressed? How can I use the Standards to support my self evaluation process in preparation for Professional Update/ERD discussion?
