GCSE Biology Plant hormones called auxins are produced at the tips of roots and shoots. They are then distributed on the underside if gravity or light.

21-Answers: Light destroys IAA so growing shoots exposed to sunlight on one side only will have an asymmetric distribution of IAA (less IAA on side exposed to sunlight, therefore, lesser cell elongation on that side). The coleoptile grows to one side, this is called phototropism.
